ABOUT THE AREA

Cerbère, a hidden gem, sits where the Eastern Pyrenees fall into the sea. The people are as fiercely Catalan as French, and very welcoming. There is a large back country for hiking, and the Mediterranean for water sports and diving, particularly in the nearby marine reserve. The village is at the end of the Vermillion coast, which stretches from Argeles sur Mer to the Costa Brava and is only five minutes' drive to Spain, where the French locals are often to be found in Portbou's Friday market. Venture further to discover the land of Salvador Dali. The village has the facilities one would expect in a small town and across the border, in Spain, you can benefit from good value Spanish shopping too.
