ABOUT THE AREA
Landes is a heavily forested area of southwest France, very underpopulated and peaceful, perfectly suited to nature-lovers and those looking for a sunny and relaxing hideaway.
The house is located 5km from the village of Sabres where you will find a grocery, 2 bakeries, a chemist, petrol station, a cafe, a bar, a pizzeria and even a small cinema showing films twice a week. There is also a pretty church dating from the 12th Century and the fascinating and famous 'Marqueze' museum of local life, traditions and architecture, which is an important tourist attraction (https://www.marqueze.fr).
The nearest town is Mont de Marsan, a 30 minute drive to the east. The white beaches of Les Landes are the most beautiful in France and practically deserted for most of the year , the closest being Mimizan, a 40 mins drive. The seaside resort and nature reserves of Archachon are 1 hour away to the north. The stunning City of Bordeaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 1 hour 15 mins, also to the north.
Biarritz is 1 hour 20 mins away to the south and the Pyrenees are a 2 hour drive away. The nearest ski resorts can be reached in just under 3 hours.
