A beautiful, stone-built, 170m2 "maison charentaise" dating from the early 20th century which has been very sympathetically renovated to provide spacious and light-filled rooms (unlike many French properties!). The property is fully south-facing, overlooking the open countryside and a local forest, in a small hamlet a short distance by car to a Carrefour Contact supermarket and an ultra modern medical centre. The road leading to the house, Le Chemin De L'alambic, is a cul-de-sac and is at the rear of the property.
Larger towns with full facilities are 15kms in either direction.
Initially this house was our holiday home, but since 2001 we have expanded its living space by 200% and it benefits from a modern electrical installation, plumbing and, of course, insulation. The house is south facing and the pretty garden is a very manageable size laid to lawn with fruit trees and two very large terraces in wood.
ABOUT THE AREA
Our hamlet and nearest village - Le Maine au Bois and Brie sous Archiac - are in the "Petite Champagne" and the countryside is predominantly covered by family owned vineyards and arable fields. It is calm, peaceful and the pace of life is slow! Apart from viticulture and agriculture there is no industry. The roads are excellent but traffic is minimal. The 2 nearest towns are lively Jonzac and sleepy Barbezieux, both 15kms in different directions. Cognac and Saintes are within 30 minutes drive each. We sometimes complain the birds are a bit noisy!!
